I discovered there are many competent competitors to Quicken, and we’ll look at a few in this overview. I opened accounts with several different money management apps. So I decided to try some Quicken alternatives.

Unfortunately, Quicken was recently sold and the new ownership group now requires an annual membership fee.

Support for Quicken 2015 ended on April 30, 2018, meaning I would need to upgrade to the latest version to continue using many features. The last version of Quicken I owned was Quicken 2015. Intuit, the former Quicken owner, supported the software for 3 years after it was released. The Windows version is more powerful, however, I use a Mac. So you are locked into using Quicken on one computer. Quicken Online was shuttered years ago in favor or (at the time Intuit owned both apps). I also realized there were several downsides to Quicken that hindered the way I wanted to use the app: I wanted something that was fast and easy to use and automatically synced with my financial accounts. Deciding to Replace QuickenĪfter reviewing how I was using Quicken and what I needed to accomplish, I realized I didn’t need all the Quicken features, such as check printing and bill pay. My primary objective was to track my investments (primary) and my spending (secondary). Instead, I used this as an opportunity to reevaluate how I was using Quicken, and whether or not I could find an alternative to Quicken that would meet all my needs.

But that is time intensive and can lead to tracking errors.

I could have continued making manual entries into my Quick app. Unfortunately, I began having problems syncing all of my financial accounts, including my primary bank account. Quicken is powerful and has many excellent features. Until about two years ago, I used Quicken, one of the most popular desktop money management software programs. Each month I document and review my spending, investments, and credit scores. Last edited by CAVEMANN 01-15-2022 at 10:54 PM.I’m a big proponent of tracking my money.

I also will mention that I HATED PEACHTREE ACCOUNTING, it gave new meaning to the words PIECE OF CRAP, it was hard to manuever around and find stuff if you didn't know where to look or start. You can check LIBRE OFFICE and OPEN OFFICE, I don't remeber if they have that kind of functionality or not, they're free and everybit as good as MICROSOFT OFFICE and have the same functions etc, I've been using Libre office for several years now, it has better file handling capabilities and options than MS OFFICE and can also open, create and save files in WORD and EXCEL formats and file names/extensions, you just have to make sure what the extension or format is. I think a good MICROSOFT EXCEL person could probably write the bookkeeping into spreadsheets. Ther'es other software out there but I don't recall what they are. We had PEACH TREE at the tow yard, but hell they started forcing uppgrades every 2 years a way back in 98 or 99, planned obsolescence, I can understand updates for the tax tables, but forced upgrades is baloney, especially for a small business trying to get on their feet. I do my own books throughout the year but have a tax and planning guy.

Almost a year later they announced they had a fix for the issue in the next update So basically I want my own program, on my own PC to keep track of income and expenses and account balances so I can dump Quicken. After I hung up on his azz I Googled the problem which was merely certain dates were not showing up in reconcile and learned it was a bug and the fix took several seconds of keystrokes on my part. Plus their support is now fee based, I called with an issue and the foreign sounding representative wanted to access all my files back more than 10 years and start fixing them saying there was a problem that could have been caused by something way back in time and he would be able to fix it once I subscribed and paid for the support plan.

I have used Quicken for years but lately they have figured out a way to get more of your money by requiring a yearly update at full charge and now it's all in the cloud.
